About ITE

Technical Councils

Connect. Contribute. Lead.

Get involved with ITE's technical councils and help shape the future of transportation.

ITE technical councils are your gateway to deeper involvement, broader networks, and meaningful impact in the transportation profession. As an ITE member, you are invited to join any council—or as many as you like—to collaborate with peers, explore emerging issues, and help shape the future of the industry.

What Are Technical Councils?

ITE's technical councils are member-led communities focused on specialized areas of transportation practice. They provide a structure for professionals across disciplines and geographies to exchange knowledge, develop resources, and inform ITE's strategic work. Each council is supported and guided by the Council Leadership Team (CLT), which provides overall coordination, ensures alignment with ITE's strategic goals, and fosters collaboration across councils and committees.

Each council has an active e-Community where members discuss trends, share tools, post calls for volunteers, and collaborate on technical products. Click the icons below to learn more about each committee and access a link to join.

Why Join a Council?

Council participation offers:

  • Networking and community: Connect with professionals across North America and beyond.
  • Professional growth: Learn from peers, explore best practices, and build your expertise.
  • Technical contribution: Co-create resources that shape practice and support the profession.
  • Career advancement: Raise your profile, gain visibility, and build leadership skills.
  • Voice in the profession: Influence ITE's direction and respond to today's biggest transportation challenges.

Whether you're early in your career or a seasoned leader, councils are a valuable way to engage more deeply with ITE's work.

What You Can Help Create

By joining a council or committee, you don't just talk about transportation—you help build the tools that shape the profession. Council members contribute to:

  • Webinars that deliver expert knowledge and offer PDH credit
  • Conference sessions at ITE's Spring and Annual Meetings
  • Quick Bites: concise, practical knowledge pieces (1–4 pages)
  • Technical Briefs: deeper, 12–20 page explorations of emerging topics
  • Web Resources: case studies and information geared to a web environment
  • Informational Reports: state-of-practice documents with national reach
  • Recommended Practices: high-impact, peer-reviewed guidance for the profession
  • Signature Projects: including the Trip Generation Manual, Parking Generation Manual, and the ITE Traffic Engineering Handbook

Whether you want to lend your voice to a survey or co-author a national report, there's a place for your expertise on an ITE council.
