Standards

Since 1996, ITE has been continuously facilitating the development of Intelligent Transportation Systems, with the majority focused on communication technologies. These systems connect vehicles and drivers to real-time traffic conditions, manage emergency and dynamic roadway messaging, alert users to active work zone information, and protect multimodal road users.

The composition of roadways and their management technologies has changed dramatically over the last three decades. As various families of communication standards have evolved alongside the machines, software, and teams used to collect and manage data, ensuring reliable and accurate information has become paramount. This has made cybersecurity enhancements a top focus for preserving and protecting these complex systems.

The following provides a list of Communications Standards Families being worked on by ITE, including  new standards under current development (Currently operating standards in bold in the subpages and links below). As open source documents, all published standards and supporting draft documents are available at no cost.

-Connected Automated Vehicles/Connected Interoperability (CAV/CTI) Family

-Advanced Transportation Controller (ATC) Family of Standards

-TSMO Big Data Exchange

-Security and Cybersecurity Standards for CTI and ITS

-NTCIP Family of Standards
