ITE established the Legacy Fund in 2016 to support the next generation of transportation leaders and help advance ITE's mission of shaping the future of the profession and transportation.
Contributions support scholarships, student and younger member programs, mentoring, leadership development, and other opportunities that help members grow throughout their careers.

Legacy Fund scholarships help qualified members participate in LeadershipITE by supporting program tuition. Travel expenses are not included.
Through contributions from ITE members, the Legacy Fund Scholarship provides tuition support for deserving individuals participating in the LeadershipITE program, helping recipients strengthen their leadership skills and advance their professional development.

Fred Gorove, a founder and long-time president of Gorove-Slade, Inc., had a significant influence on the transportation profession and mentored generations of engineers. The Fred Gorove Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2017 to honor his legacy by supporting an annual LeadershipITE scholarship.
Jack and Caroline Gould later contributed additional funding to extend the scholarship beyond its original ten-year commitment.

The ITE Consultants Council established this scholarship beginning in 2024 to support an applicant based on considerations including merit, financial need, and the availability of scholarships through the candidate's District or Section. Financial need must be demonstrated, and the scholarship supports tuition only.

Established in 2014 by the California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo student chapter, ITE Student Leadership Summits give student members opportunities to gain conference-planning experience, professional development, and access to ITE leaders. Legacy Fund contributions provide important seed funding while student organizers raise the additional funds needed to hold successful Summits.

With support from the Matson and Hammond Funds, the Matson-Hammond Mentoring Program was established in 2018 to connect younger members with experienced transportation professionals who can provide career development advice and guidance. To participate as a mentor or mentee, visit ITE's e-Community Mentoring Program .

Theodore M. Matson, one of ITE's founders, contributed greatly to traffic engineering and professional education. The fund recognizes and supports excellence in the profession and is associated with the Theodore M. Matson Memorial Award.

Harold F. Hammond served ITE in senior volunteer leadership roles and supported the organization during its formative years. The Fellowship Fund was established to recognize and support the development of young professionals.
There are several ways to support the professional growth of students, younger members, and future transportation leaders.

The ITE Legacy Committee was established by the ITE Board of Direction in conjunction with the ITE Past Presidents' Table. The Committee advocates for donations to the Legacy Program and works with the ITE Executive Director and CEO to oversee available funding and establish annual program priorities.
