ITE IBOD & ITE Staff 2020 Recap
- We gathered in Washington, DC, USA in January for our one and only face-to-face meeting together
- We approved a new ITE Strategic Plan for 2021-2023 and began to implement it
- We published the “long-in-development” Recommended Practice on Traffic Signal Change and Clearance Intervals
- We approved new Charters/Bylaws for each District and Section, including the organization of 2 new Districts and 16 new Sections, and created a Chapter model charter
- We created the first virtual District and International Meetings and Traffic Bowl
- We exceeded our previous year’s attendance at an International Meeting
- We created and delivered a virtual “sandbox” competition for micromobility
- We hosted webinar sessions for over 400 members on our emerging topic of Big Data/Data Analytics and advanced a strategy team to assess how the topic will affect the profession in the future
- We transitioned away from local-only dues and advanced differential pricing across ITE
- We created a free pandemic focused technical product for members in less than four months
- We have an ITE Calendar now prominent on every Chapter, Section, District and HQ website and e-blasts
- We raised over $200,000 for the Legacy Fund and Diversity Scholars through the ITE Legacy Society
- We completed a visioning session and established action plans with the new Great Lakes District to ignite their new configuration
- We re-imagined professional development and broke records for attendance, including a member centric balance of free and fee-based programming
- We piloted virtual joint section meetings across the USA and California on topics of video safety analytics and SB 743/VMT
- We reorganized, placed IBOD members in and now have a guiding principle for each of the ITE Councils
- We created a new Transportation Impact Analysis certificate webinar series that sold out
- We converted LeadershipITE on the fly to a virtual format, then used it to attract a large 2021 class
- We linked LeadershipITE projects to council activity, including a survey of students and leadership
- We remained fiscally strong and maintained membership in a very complex year
- We opened a series of discussions related to diversity, inclusion & equity before and during the social unrest across the United States, leading to the development of equity listening sessions with membership in 2021
- We produced a series of tools for transportation funding reauthorization for all membership
- We settled on a series of windows for District meetings to avoid conflicts
- We approved a complete update to ITE’s Policies
- We advanced a series of communication webinars and draft guides for Districts, Sections, and Chapters
- We created a virtual International Student Leadership Summit for February 2021
- We approved a new Virtual Technical Conference for March 2021
- We reorganized our recognition to younger members under central theme of Young Leaders to Follow We explored the Traffic Engineering Handbook for the next decade
- We engaged ITE Past Presidents virtually in August and for the first time create a holiday social gathering
- We oversaw the rapid expansion of ITE social media
- We partnered with ACEC on ethics, COMTO on equity, IMSA on signal maintenance and IEEE on CAV
- We acquired MS Teams for Council/Committee file sharing and collaboration
- We were successful in obtaining a Paycheck Protection loan
- We helped e-Community to a record number of posts (~4400) with an average 6-7 posts per discussion
- We were a voice to FHWA on MUTCD and to FCC on 5.9GHz, and created a Presidential Questionnaire
- We continued the leadership network experience of ITE
- We finalized getting dues direct deposited for nearly all Districts and Sections
- We invented drop-in sessions – attended by about 1,500 members in 2020, attracting a global audience
- We expanded Student Chapters to University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, University of Windsor, University of Texas – Tyler, and Milwaukee School of Engineering
- We established a task force to advance student transition to young professionals, including the Education Council and Young Professionals Committee (who are considering new branding as YITE)
- We generated a series of STEM activities that are transportation focused
- We added to the reach of the Industry Council with Bosch, Inrix, Miovision and Q-Free and the Council produced an updated ITS and Traffic Management Equipment Procurement Methods Guide
- We are producing a Consultants Selection Guide by the Consultants Council
- We saw 19 companies join the Consultants Council during its reorganization in 2020
- We made progress with our coalition support of the Road to Zero initiatives in support of Vision Zero
