Awards Recognized on the International Level

Each year ITE works with the various judging committees and Councils to review the awards criteria to ensure that the awards are always recognizing the merits of individuals, projects or organizations that best represent the true nature of the award.  This review is done in the early fall and completed by late October.  At the same time, the headquarters works with the Districts to ensure their District Awards Coordinators are selected by December 1 to be included in the most current version of the Awards Brochure. This is published annually on ITE’s web site by January 1. This is the same time that the Open Water platform is open for submissions. Award information is also available here: https://www.ite.org/membership/awards1/

IBOD Policy on Named ITE International Awards

A Board Task Group was developed to review the labeling of all ITE “named” awards. The discussion was around placing more emphasis on the current winner of the award, but continuing to recognize the legacy and importance of the individual for whom the award is named. We believe this is a best practice that DSCs may want to follow. To illustrate, below are the awards that will be modified in 2026.

Recognition for these awards would continue to be done at the ITE Annual Meeting during the Awards Luncheon. Scripts would be modified to include a bit more information about the award recipient and less of the history of the person for whom the award is named.

The Board is also looking at a more formal process to be developed for the naming of any future international award to ensure there is substantial support for any individual to be recognized in this way.
