Mastering Transportation Impact Analysis (TIA): Advanced Techniques, Critical Thinking, and Emerging Trends for Transportation Professionals

Course Description

This program is designed for transportation professionals who wish to deepen their expertise and apply emerging trends in preparing and reviewing Transportation Impact Analysis (TIA) reports in their communities. Over five live sessions, participants will engage with complex topics critical to producing comprehensive and actionable TIAs. The program will expand on the topics covered in the foundational ITE Transportation Impact Analysis program and promote critical thinking in trip generation, trip assignment, operational analysis, and safety analysis. Program content includes equity considerations in TIAs, emphasis on real-world applications, project management skills, and effective strategies for communicating project findings.

This educational offering is delivered through a combination of lectures, collaborative discussions, breakout sessions, led by expert panelists. Participants will gain practical experience in crafting and critiquing TIAs based on their own field experience and program content. Each participant will complete work throughout the course that applies the concepts and methodologies discussed. Students are expected to spend up to 1 hour of work per week on homework and discussions outside of the live sessions with instructors.

Registrants should consider taking this program if you have between 3 -10 years or more experience of conducting or reviewing Transportation Impact Analyses.  This program is built upon the current foundational level ITE Transportation Impact Analysis program.  Successful completion of the current foundational level ITE Transportation Impact Analysis program is encouraged but not required.

Overall Program Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• 1. Understand Advanced TIA Concepts Appropriate for your Role as Preparer or Reviewer:

  • Advanced methodologies for trip generation, distribution, and assignment to forecast transportation demand impacts.

  • Safety analyses to identify potential risks and mitigation strategies.

  • Operational performance metrics and models are used to assess traffic flow, congestion, and infrastructure demands.

• 2. Critically Review and Evaluate TIA Reports:

  • Develop skills in critiquing transportation impact analysis reports (as both a preparer and reviewer), identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.

  • Apply best practices and standards to ensure reports meet industry and regulatory requirements.

  • Apply emerging and innovative trends in preparing and reviewing TIAs.

• 3. Manage Transportation Impact Analysis Projects:

  • Employ project management skills to plan, organize, and prepare or review a TIA project, including time management, resource allocation, and team coordination.

• 4. Enhance Presentation and Communication Skills:

  • Create clear, concise, and persuasive TIA reports that effectively communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.

  • Understand and address the needs of different audiences when making a presentation.

Course material will be in each module. This includes PDFs of the Power Point presentations for each module, any references, handouts, and links if applicable.

To Earn the Program Certificate and Receive PDH Credit

Participants Must:

• Individual Contributions: Participation in live session discussions, breakout groups.
• Program Evaluation: Must complete evaluation of the overall program.
• 15 PDHs available.

Additional attendees: This course is for individual participation only. Group sessions are not supported. Credit is applied to registrants only.
