This webinar is led by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), ITE, and partners involved in the Safe System Success Stories initiative.
When: November 18, 2026 | 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. ET
Webinar Description:
What does it take to move from a Safe System commitment to meaningful, lasting change? The Safe System Success Stories, developed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), ITE, and other partners, show how communities are moving beyond isolated, reactive safety projects and proactively addressing the conditions that contribute to traffic deaths and serious injuries.
Building on the first Safe System Success Stories webinar, this session will feature examples from Austin, Cleveland, and the State of California. Presenters will discuss how they are putting Safe System principles into practice by reducing exposure to risk through transportation and development decisions, scaling speed-management treatments to reduce crash severity, and coordinating planning, policy, design, land use, and operational strategies to reduce exposure, severity, and the likelihood of crashes.
Participants will hear directly from the people doing this work, including what enabled progress, the barriers they encountered, and lessons that other communities can apply. The discussion will also explore how agencies can institutionalize the Safe System Approach by embedding safety into the policies, standards, programs, investments, and everyday decisions that shape the transportation system.
Throughout the webinar, panelists will share practical examples and approaches that transportation professionals can adapt within their own agencies and communities.
