ITE Webinar: Right-Sizing Roundabouts: Lessons from Successful Projects

When: September 22, 2026 | 2:00 -- 3:30 PM ET

This webinar is led by the ITE Roundabout Committee.

Webinar Description:

Roundabouts are not one-size-fits-all solutions. Roundabout projects are successful when they balance safety, operational efficiency, multimodal accommodations, available right-of-way, the community's specific characteristics, and long-term transportation objectives to produce a design suitable for the area.

The webinar will focus on two successful roundabout projects to show how the principle of right-sizing can be put into practice. The people involved in the projects will discuss their challenges, the design choices that led to the final solution, and how each roundabout was adapted to meet the specific requirements of its transportation network and local community.

The participants will gain a better understanding of the planning, design, and implementation factors that influenced each project, as well as the lessons learned that can be applied to future roundabout projects.

The ITE Roundabout Committee selected the projects to be highlighted through its Roundabout Recognition Program, and these projects exemplify thoughtful, context-sensitive roundabout design.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify key factors that influence the right-sizing of roundabouts, including safety, operational, multimodal, right-of-way, and contextual considerations.
  • Evaluate how project constraints and community needs can influence roundabout geometry, design decisions, and implementation strategies.
  • Apply lessons learned from successful real-world projects to the planning and design of future roundabout projects.
  • Recognize opportunities to develop context-sensitive roundabout solutions that balance safety, mobility, multimodal accommodation, and overall project goals.
