ITE Webinar: Meeting the Information Needs of Road Users - Application of the Human Factors Guidelines for Road Systems

When: July 14, 2026 | 2:00 -- 3:00 PM ET

This webinar is led by the ITE Safety Council.

Webinar Description:

This webinar will summarize the role that user error plays in traffic safety, particularly the ways in which roadway demands can exceed road users' capabilities, leading to crashes. It will also describe the Human Factors Guidelines for Road Systems (NCHRP Report 1148; the HFG3) in sufficient detail for attendees to user to grasp the breadth of coverage of the HFG3, while also highlighting its ease-of-use in finding and extracting desired information aimed at improving roadway design. A series of questions will be embedded within the webinar to capture key ways in which attendees have used the HFG in their own work and to identify key barriers to implementation.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the ways in which road user errors lead to crashes and ways in which the HFG3 can be used to decrease the demands placed on road users.
  • Summarize the purpose, layout, and contents of the HFG.
  • Identify specific examples/ways that participants can use the HFG3 in their day-to-day activities.
