Use of Anonymized Mobile Data to Support Transit Redesigns, Plan Emergency Evacuations, and Track COVID-19 Recovery - Dallas and Fort Worth Sections Meeting

Date and Time: June 18, 2020, 11:30am - 12:30pm CT

Description: Anonymized mobile data are becoming increasingly ubiquitous as the world increasingly move towards all-smartphone usage.  These data are being used to support a wide variety of transportation and mobility studies across the country.  In this presentation, Mr. Anurag Komanduri will cover the use of these data to support three different case studies. Each case study has a different time horizon and has been selected to showcase the power of these data to support both retrospective and future-looking studies.  In addition, Mr. Francisco Torres will provide locally compiled data on the effects of COVID-19 on transportation here in DFW.

Speakers: Anurag Komanduri, Principal, Cambridge Systematics;  Francisco Torres, P.E., Data Applications Manager, North Central Texas Council of Governments

Learning Objective: It appears that anonymized mobile data are the answer to every question in the transportation planning, modeling, and operations world. But, as the adage goes “if it’s good to be true, it probably isn’t”.  Over the course of the presentation, Mr. Komanduri will cover dos and don’ts for using mobile data in transportation and mobility studies.
