Mobility as a Service and Mobility on Demand during COVID-19: How to Plan for Reduced Mode Share of Public Transit

When: Thursday, September 24, 2020 -- 2:00 - 3:30 PM ET

This webinar was developed by the ITE Transit Standing Committee, MaaS Steering Committee

Webinar Description:

Mobility as a Service (MaaS) is quickly changing the mobility landscape - Mobility on Demand (MOD) at a click of a button on the phone, with single payment, one account and all modes fit to each person’s personal preference. What is the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on MaaS/MOD? We have seen drastic changes in mode choice due to stay at home orders, social distancing, travel restrictions, and remote working. Will these factors implement MaaS/MOD or will MaaS/MOD be delayed in the public transit sector?

This webinar will highlight the impact of COVID-19 on future transport operations and will address the near-, mid-, and long-term effects based on current behavior changes - especially travel choices - to be modified because of COVID-19. We will also illustrate some of the recent challenges and concerns they will describe several recent trends, as well as projects, with consideration of impacts and recent shifts in modes and impacts to mobility including the interactions between MaaS/MOD, transit, and other modes due to COVID-19. This webinar will feature projects from toll facilities, city of Chicago, Contra Costa Transportation Agency, and others.

This webinar will answer questions like: Is MaaS/MOD poised to help pick up trips for those uncomfortable with public transit? Will COVID-19 require public transit to shift to contactless payment? Will contactless payment increase the need for MaaS/MOD platforms? And how will funding and revenue shifts impact how public transit operates?

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize how COVID has impacted MaaS and Public Transit service design.
  • Explain the next feasible steps to implement a stronger and equitable transportation solution in high density areas as well as in lower density suburban areas.
