Basics of Connected and Automated Vehicles for Public Agencies

When: Thursday, May 27, 2021, 2:00 - 3:00 PM EDT

This webinar was developed by the ITE TSMO Council and C/AV Steering Committee.

Webinar Description:

In the realm of Connected Vehicles and Automated Vehicles, there is a lot of information available on different technologies and applications; from a local transportation agency's practitioner standpoint, the questions arise "What is "real"? What do I believe? How does this impact what I do? Should I be doing anything to prepare?".

This panel will include a panel of practitioners in the Connected and Automated Vehicle space, and address the following three areas:

1. Why is ITE Involved?
The vast majority of ITE members don't make or sell technology, so it may not always be clear to members how this fits into the overall mission of the organization. The presenters will provide an overview of the membership, and demonstrate how connected and automated vehicle developments fit into the organizations goals and initiatives.

2. What is "C" and what is "A"?
Part of the Complexity of understanding Connected and Automated Vehicle technology is the nuances of the applications and terminology. This segment of the webinar will include some high-level definitions and concepts. It is important to note that this webinar will be focused on a very abstract level, without getting into details of the technology; part of the webinar will include an interactive poll to gauge what other information is of interest to members, to the Steering Committee can put together additional future, detailed and specific webinars.

3. How do local agencies prepare?
The roles of local transportation agencies in the preparation for and deployment of these technologies is not always clear. The panel will provide an overview as to how communities are impacted, and can get involved, and provide some high-level project examples. As mentioned above, this will be at a higher and generalized level, with a "teasing" of future webinars that will go into more specific planning and preparation details.
