Basics of Connected and Automated Vehicles for Public Agencies

When: Tuesday, July 14,  2020, 2:00 - 3:00 PM ET

This webinar was developed by the ITE TSMO Council and C/AV Steering Committee.

Webinar Description:

Connected Vehicles and Automated Vehicles are already having a profound impact on the planning and operations of transportation agencies; these impacts are expected to proportionately increase, as more of the general vehicle fleet is equipped with advanced technologies to improve safety and mobility.

It's important that most practitioners in the transportation space have a general understanding of the technology. This presentation will not spend much time on the technical details of connected vehicle systems, supporting infrastructure systems, or automated driving systems. Rather, this webinar will define connected vehicles, automated vehicles, and explain the differences between the two. We will share what transportation agencies can begin doing to prepare for this technology. This webinar will also address the steps ITE, as an organization, are taking and their involvement.

Learning Objectives:
Attendees of this webinar will be able to:

  • Recognize the role ITE plays in the development and deployment of advanced technology transportation solutions.
  • Understand the differences between connected vehicles and automated vehicles;  and recognize the potential of safety and mobility benefits when both sets of technologies are realized in the future.
  • Identify key early steps transportation agencies can take to prepare for the benefits of connected and automated vehicle technologies.
