Call To Assist ITE in the Development of the 2nd Edition if Its Manual of Transportation Engineering Studies

The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is in the process of developing a 2nd edition of the Manual of Transportation Studies. Since 1994 when the first edition of the Manual was published, technologies and standards of practice have evolved significantly. ITE is seeking help in updating this important reference to reflect the current state of the practice.

Are you interested in helping define the content of the Manual?
ITE is soliciting individuals interested in serving on a technical advisory panel responsible for shaping the content for the new Manual. This small group of experts with diverse backgrounds and skills is expected to convene at ITE Headquarters for a one-day meeting during June 2008.

Are you interested in participating on a team to help write the Manual?
Once the draft content is developed by the technical advisory panel, ITE will publish a request for proposals for a team to write the next edition. ITE is currently in the process of developing a list of organizations that are interested in serving in this capacity.

Are you interested in reviewing the technical content of the Manual?
ITE is seeking draft chapter reviewers for the revision edition of the Manual. Reviewers will be requested to review 1 to 2 draft chapters as materials are developed. It is expected that the review period will take place in the winter of 2008.

To express your interest in serving on the technical advisory panel or as a chapter reviewer for this project, please send your name, contact information, brief resume and a one-page statement of interest documenting your professional background specifically applicable to this work. Submissions should be directed to Lisa Fontana Tierney, Traffic Engineering Senior Director, at lfontana@ite.org no later than May 19, 2008. Technical advisory panel members and chapter reviewers will be selected and notified by June 1, and June 30, 2008, respectively.

If you have an interest in being notified about the RFP or if you would like to submit feedback or sources of information that should be considered by ITE in the development of this resource, please e-mail to lfontana@ite.org with the subject header: Transportation Engineering Studies RFP no later than May 31, 2008. Advisory committee members and chapter reviewers are eligible to respond to the RFP.
