BACKGROUND:

Effective traffic incident management relies on strong partnerships between public safety and transportation agencies and professionals. Through the efforts of the National Traffic Incident Management Coalition (NTIMC), a National Unified Goal for TIM was recently developed. This briefing will provide a background and overview of National Unified Goal for Traffic Incident Management.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

At the conclusion of the course, participants should be able to:

1) Understand the development process and components of the goal
2) Approach implementation of the goal in their local jurisdictions

INSTRUCTOR: Steven J. Cyra, Traffic Operations Department Manager, HNTB Fellow, Milwaukee, WI, USA

Steven is a Fellow with the HNTB Corporation and also serves as their Great Lakes Division ITS Director. Based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he is a registered PE and PTOE and has over 21 years of private and public-sector experience and specializes in the planning, design, and operations of ITS. For the last 12 years, he has served as the consultant’s Project Manager for the TIME Program. TIME, an ITS America Best-Of Award Winner, is a regional, comprehensive traffic incident management program in Southeastern Wisconsin that is also supporting Emergency Traffic Operations and Evacuation activities in the region. Additionally, Steve is supporting multiple other incident management initiatives and ITS projects from around the country. Mr. Cyra has authored numerous papers and presentations on ITS and incident management and currently represents ITE on the National Traffic Incident Management Coalition and chairs the ITE Traffic Incident Management Committee. In addition to his private sector work, his public experience includes serving as Associate Traffic Engineer for the Cities of Dallas, Texas and Anaheim, California.
