BACKGROUND:

The Web briefing will present and discuss forthcoming guidance from FHWA Office of Planning in the form of a desk reference titled Integrating Demand Management into the Transportation Planning Process. The guide will assist planners determine why, when and how to integrate Travel Demand Management (TDM) into all steps of the planning process.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

At the conclusion of the course, participants should be able to:

1) Identify new, broader definition of Travel Demand Management (TDM)
2) Assess role of TDM in addressing major policy objectives
3) Discern the appropriate role of TDM of various planning levels
4) Obtain information on additional technical resources on TDM

Egan Smith is currently on FHWA's Planning Oversight and Stewardship team and acts as the head office planning liaison for eight FHWA division offices. He also provides overall support in the specific planning areas of the Congestion Management Process, Operations/ITS and Planning for Operations, and Performance-based Planning.

Eric Schreffler, is an independent transportation consultant based in San Diego, California. He specializes in the evaluation of TDM measures to address traffic congestion, sustainability and air quality issues.

Sonya Jackson Landrum is a Principal Transportation Planner for the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA, and a Master of Business Administration in Management from Amberton University in Garland, TX. Sonya is the manager of the Congestion Management, Travel Demand Management and Transportation Safety program areas for NCTCOG.

Liz McAdory is the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) program manager for the Corridor Demand Management (CDM) program, which resides in the Transportation and Mobility Planning division. Liz is responsible for the Park and Ride, Bicycle and Pedestrian and Safe Routes to Schools (SRTS) programs. Additionally, she coordinates with other divisions within VDOT and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) regarding potential Transportation Demand Management (TDM) strategies.

Chris Arabia is the Manager of Mobility Programs for the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation. He is responsible for programming and administering grant funding to support Transportation Demand Management programs throughout Virginia. He also responsible for administering the statewide Telework!VA program.
