Miguel A. Nunez, Transportation Planner, Fehr & Peers, Santa Monica, CA, USA

Miguel Núnez has five years of experience in transportation planning. He received his Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2007 before working at Fehr & Peers. He has assisted in a wide variety of projects including pedestrian safety assessments, bicycle plans, and bicycle and pedestrian safety studies for local jurisdictions and universities. He has helped to collect and analyze data for traffic impact assessments contained in Environmental Impact Reports on four Hawaiian islands and California, and has been involved pedestrian and/or bicycle planning efforts in Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties. Miguel was born in Mexico City and grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles, for his undergraduate and graduate degrees, and lives and works in Santa Monica.

Frank Markowitz, Senior Transportation Planner, San Francisco MTA, San Francisco, CA, USA

Frank Markowitz is a Senior Transportation Planner for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA). He specializes in pedestrian facilities and transit station area planning. He has over 25 years of experience in transportation planning in the public and private sectors. He holds master’s degrees in city planning from the University of California at Berkeley and health science from San Jose State University.

Sam Morrissey, City Traffic Engineer, City of Santa Monica, Santa Monica, CA, USA

Sam Morrissey is the City Traffic Engineer for the City of Santa Monica and has held the position since January 2009. He is responsible for overseeing Transportation Engineering and Management Division of the City, which provides transportation engineering, traffic signal, and Transportation Demand Management (TDM) program services. Other responsibilities include implementing transportation management plans for special events, planning and monitoring traffic control for construction activities, developing and directing policies related to parking, project development, securing project funding, and working with local residents and business groups to address transportation issues. Sam has over 13 years of experience in the design, planning, forecasting, analysis, and operation of a variety of transportation facilities. Prior to joining the City of Santa Monica, Sam’s experience was in the private sector working on planning and engineering projects in California, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii, Utah, and Washington. He is a registered Civil Engineer in California and Hawaii, and a registered Traffic Engineer in California.

Andrew O'Brien, Chairman and Director, O'Brien Traffic, Hawthorn East, Australia

Andy O'Brien has extensive international experience of over 40 years in traffic engineering and road safety engineering. His overall contribution to the transportation profession was recognized with his election as Honorary Member of ITE in 2007. Andy has had extensive experience in developing and presenting professional safety and traffic engineering courses. He founded O'Brien Traffic in 1986. His areas of expertise include motorway operations, cyclist and pedestrian safety, traffic calming, road safety studies and audits, and analysis and design of roundabouts and traffic signals.
