ITE Traffic Engineering Council

The goal of the Traffic Engineering Council is to deliver products that address the needs of ITE members relating to the design, operation and maintenance of roads, streets, highways, their networks and terminals and the relationship of these facilities with the other modes of transportation.

The Traffic Engineering Council provides its members with a wealth of information via its quarterly newsletter, ITE Journal articles, its heavily used Internet listserv discussion forum and the production and sponsorship of seminars at ITE international, district, section and chapter meetings. In 2008, the council will continue to expand on its more than 16 current council projects. These and other council projects develop recommended practices, informational reports, and other resources that are of practical use and interest to its members. We welcome your involvement.

Objectives of the Council

The council objectives include the following:

  • Determine needs of council members.
  • Develop quality products in both technical and non-technical areas.
  • Communicate council products and other relevant information through reports, ITE Journal, conferences, the newsletter, standards, special programs and speaker lists.
  • Create opportunities for council members to participate in ITE activities.
  • Coordinate council efforts with other programs within ITE.

Strategic Direction

The TENC has initiated a strategic planning effort to determine what the Council (activities, programs, operating practices, etc.) should look like in five years and to identify actions that can be taken today to begin to move the Council toward that future. As an input to this strategic planning effort, the Council surveyed its Executive Committee, former TENC chairs, and selected members of the Coordinating Council Leadership. This document discusses potential opportunities for the Council as identified by the survey.

A list of Council Executive Committee members can be found in the membership directory under ITE Council Executive Committee members. A list of Council members can be found under ITE Councils. Select the appropriate Council from the dropdown menu and click "Search".
