  • 2004 TENC Best Project: Preemption of Traffic Signals Near Railroad Crossings with Active Warning Devices, Committee Chair Thomas Lancaster

  • 2003 TENC Best Paper: “Operational Benefits of Queue Detection for Protected-Permissive Left-Turn Phasing” by Daniel Mitchell and Saif Rahimuddin.
  • 2003 TENC Best Project Award: “LED Arrow and Pedestrian Traffic Signal Standards” chaired by Nathaniel S. Behura
  • Best Traffic Engineering Tip for 2003: “Work Zones and Right-of-Way Management” by W. Roger Buell

The Traffic Engineering Council presented the following awards in 1999:

  • Traffic Engineering Council's Outstanding Project Award:  Charles V. Zegeer as chair of the committee that produced the ITE publication, "Design and Safety of Pedestrian Facilities."
  • Outstanding Paper Award:  David B. Richardson, Kevin I. Pacheco-Phillips, David A. Banks and Ben Barkow for their paper presented at the 1998 Annual Meeting entitled, "Bikeway Traffic Control Guidelines."
  • Outstanding Service Award:  T. Darcy Sullivan, in recognition of outstanding service as Chair of the report Interim Purchase Specifications for LED Signal Modules.

The Traffic Engineering Council presented the following awards in 1998:

  • Outstanding Paper Award:  Edward C. Sullivan, California Polytechnic State University, Pismo Beach, CA, USA in recognition of his paper, "Impacts of Implementing the California Route 91 Variable Toll Express Lanes."
  • Outstanding Council Project Award: Willard A. Alroth, in recognition of the council project report entitled, "Preemption of Traffic Signals At or Near Railroad Grade Crossings with Active Warning Devices."

The Traffic Engineering Council presented the following awards in 1997:

  • Outstanding Paper Award: Herbert S. Levinson, Herbert Levinson Trans. Cons., New Haven, CT, USA; and Timothy J. Lomax, Texas A&M University, Houston, TX, USA in recognition of their paper, "A Travel Time Based Index for Evaluation Congestion."
