Traffic Simulation Subcommittee

Chair: Cheng-Chen Kou, Ph.D., P.E., PTOE, PB Americas, Inc., TX
Co-chair: Jonathan Reid, P.E., PB Americas, Inc., GA

Traffic simulation can be used by practitioners to evaluate the benefits of several available options for a given improvement. Traffic simulation poses the challenge of simulating the real world conditions in the field which requires accurate data collection and calibration. Further, different types of simulation models (Macroscopic, Microscopic or Mesoscopic) can be considered based on availability of resources, the amount of detail required in the output and simulation tools available in the market. The panel of experts on this subcommittee can assist the practitioners with issues related to traffic simulation. The scope of the subcommittee includes:
  • Procedure for simulation
  • Data calibration
  • Type of simulation (Macroscopic, Microscopic and Mesoscopic)
  • Interpreting simulation output
  • Hardware-in-loop traffic simulation
  • Developing traffic simulation networks
