The Intelligent Traffic Signal Operations Committee was established under the Management and Operations/ITS Council of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) in October 2005. Motivated by the findings of the National Traffic Signal Report Card, the committee’s goal is to save practitioners’ time and effort in researching strategies to resolve problems related to traffic signal systems.

The objective of this committee is to provide timely opinions, advice, tips, guidelines and best practices directly to transportation professionals and practitioners through an on-line system in a timely manner. The committee consists of experts on traffic signal operation available for peer-to-peer technical advice. The committee is organized into six specialty subcommittees:

1. Traffic Signal Timing Subcommittee
2. Traffic Simulation Subcommittee
3. Transportation Software Subcommittee
4. Hardware/Firmware and Telecommunication Subcommittee
5. Knowledge Database Subcommittee
6. Outreach Subcommittee
