White Paper Now Available on “Delivering ITS Solutions through TIGER Discretionary Grants”
ITS America’s white paper, “Delivering ITS Solutions through TIGER Discretionary Grants,” is now available for your distribution and use. This paper provides information to assist public agencies and private sector/nonprofit partners in applying for ITS-related economic recovery projects under the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (U.S. DOT) “Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery” or “TIGER” Grant program. As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, $1.5 billion in discretionary funding was provided to the U.S. DOT to be awarded for capital investments in surface transportation projects. The U.S. DOT published final guidance for the TIGER Grant program in the Federal Register on June 17, including details about funding availability, project selection criteria, application requirements, and the September 15, 2009 application deadline.
The TIGER Grant program provides a significant opportunity for public agencies and their private sector and nonprofit partners to invest in innovative transportation technologies and operational improvements that will create near- and long-term jobs and economic growth while providing long-term benefits to our transportation system, economic competitiveness, environment, and quality of life. ITS America developed this white paper as a guide for you to create a strong case for investing in ITS solutions and is available to serve as a resource as you work to submit your TIGER Grant application.

Transportation Incident Management Committee

Promote successful deployment of regional traffic incident management programs. Facilitate a traffic incident management network to link traffic incident management professionals, and promote and support existing national incident management groups. The TIM Committee involves a national group of professionals from the transportation and public safety community committed to the effective implementation and support of local traffic incident management programs. An on-going TIM Committee activity involves the development, preparation and co-sponsoring of the annual Traffic Incident Management Workshop held in conjunction with the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting. Standards Committee

The committee oversees the development of ITS standards for which ITE is responsible, including the traffic management data dictionary, the transit communications ITS profiles, the advanced transportation controller, message sets for external traffic management center (TMC) communications and national Transportation communications for ITS protocol. Input from ITE members determine the needs for ITS standards and protocols.
Emergency Transportation Operations Committee – NEW!

While most transportation agencies are well acquainted with designing, operating and maintaining the road network, there are a limited number of traffic professions that are trained to operate under emergency conditions and interact with emergency service providers. The goal of this committee is to provide a resource for ITE members to share information that will help the traffic engineering industry to interface better with emergency management providers to provide a more efficient response.
Intelligent Traffic Signal Operations Committee
Committee Chair: Pei-Sung Lin, CUTR, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL, USA
Inspired by the findings of the National Traffic Signal Report Card, this committee intends to save practitioners time and effort in exploring and researching strategies to resolve problems related to traffic signal systems within the United States and worldwide. The goal of the committee is to provide suggestion and opinions directly to transportation professionals and practitioners who are ITE members through an online system. The committee is comprised of experts on different aspects of traffic signal operations. The ITSO committee Web site is used as a medium to communicate with public and private agencies. Practitioners who are ITE members can submit their questions to the committee through the website.
