Sydney J. Williams

J. Williams, was an esteemed individual of the National Safety Council.
Mr. Williams was a national leader in industrial, public, and
traffic safety.
He joined the National Safety Council in 1918 as chief engineer,
later becoming Director of their Public Safety Division in 1924.
He became General Manager in 1944 and Assistant to the President
in 1945.
He was a Director of ITE (1933-1937) and a charter member.

Born
in 1886 he received his B.S. and C.E. degrees from the University of
Wisconsin.
He was the recipient of the 1938 C.I.T. Safety Foundation Grand
Award and in 1950 of the SAE Beecroft Memorial Award.
He was a member of ASCE, SAE, ASSE, Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta
Pi.
He was also safety consultant to the Atomic Energy Commission,
the White House, Federal Interdepartmental Safety Council and was
Chairman of the American Standards Association's Highway Traffic
Standards Committee as well as being Chairman of the National Committee
on Uniform Traffic Laws and Ordinances.
