John LeonardOur Power Lunch speaker is John Leonard, a professor at MIT and Area Lead for autonomous driving studies with the Toyota Research Institute. His talk focuses on the current state of play with autonomous vehicles, the challenges that are ahead of us, and what role transportation professionals at the state and local level can play in advancing their adoption.

 

The Link between Transportation and Health, Tuesday, August 1, 4:15—5:30 p.m.

Transportation plays a vital and critical role in the development of livable–and by extension–healthy communities. One of ITE’s is to explore the link between transportation and public health – link to transportation and health statement. Our plenary session on Tuesday brings leading experts in transportation and public health from the U.S. and Canada for an in-depth and interactive discussion on the intersection between these two topics.

As our Closing Plenary speaker, he offers a thought-provoking and provocative capstone to the conference. Using a TED-talk format, Toderian will focus on what a true multi-modal city for people looks like and how to achieve it. This is a not-to-be missed session that will leave attendees buzzing long after they return home.
